Nurse Aide Training

INTRODUCTION

This course of instruction prepares individuals to work in various settings as a nursing assistant. Graduates will be eligible to take a state exam to allow them to find suitable employment in long term care, home health, hospital, hospice and other healthcare fields.  Students will learn to work with patients showing them clinical expertise and also respect and dignity.  Graduates of this program may find entry-level employment as a nurse aide with hospitals, nursing homes and other long term care entities.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Monarch Care Source Nurse Aid training will be comprised of 100 hours of classroom training and clinical rotations.  Content will include but not be limited to introduction to long term care, personal care skills, basic nursing skills, restorative services, mental health and social service needs and basic social skills.  Procedural guidelines will also be taught including but not limited to safety and emergency procedures, infection control, communication, nutrition and hydration, basic nursing skills, personal care, elimination care, caring for resident death, basic restoration services and prevention of pressure ulcers.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

To prepare nurse aides with the knowledge, skills and abilities essential for the provision of basic care to residents in long-term care facilities. After completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Provide person-centered basic care to residents of long-term care facilities.
• Communicate and interact therapeutically with residents and their families, with sensitivity to the physical, social, and mental needs of residents.
• Assist residents in attaining and maintaining maximum functional independence.
• Protect, support and promote the rights of residents.
• Provide safety and preventive measures in the care of residents.
• Demonstrate skill in observing, reporting and documentation.
• Function effectively as a member of the health care team.
